FAQ

Yes. Even if they are not undergoing the competency based pathway and prefer to attempt
the Access Canberra one-off test many clients take a lesson or two in the instructor car and
then use it to take the test. The advantage is using a small easy to drive car, especially
when it comes to parking.

Every student is unique so we cannot make a generalised estimate. A very skilled driver who has done a lot of practice and does not need much instruction in each of the competencies can sometimes complete them in 10-12 hours. Students that need a bit of instruction to work on certain aspects will take longer to complete.
Yes. Many students are competent road drivers but just need help in a specific element of driving such as parking. CADS teaches a number of techniques that make parallel reverse parking much easier. We can also help perfect other specific skills such as three point turns and U-turns.
There is no actual final test in the Competency Based Pathway, however each of the competencies is assessed as we go along. There are two occasions where we review the competencies that we’ve done so far to check that we still know how to do them. These reviews are done with the instructor that you’ve been working with throughout the process, but it is nothing like the stress and pressure of having one big test that everything is riding on. There is no limit on the number of attempts that you can make to achieve each of the competencies.
Yes. CADS caters to all levels of driving experience. The advantage of a student that has no driving experience is that they have not learnt the bad habits that need to be undone to progress to the next skill.
Yes. CADS specialises in the ACT driving competencies, however we do assist NSW drivers especially to iron out a few of the specific skill such as parking before attempting the NSW driving test.
We realise that life is unpredictable and plans change constantly, often due to illness. 4 hours notice is sufficient notice to reschedule a booking without penalty.
